As frustrating as that can be, if they didn’t enforce their policies, then the policies wouldn’t be worth anything. Making sure all the right stickers/paperwork/what-have-you is in place keeps them from being held liable when someone buys a product that could potentially fail a second time. Letting it slide once or twice won’t do anything [...]

Also, no more sports games. I can go outside and play real sports, thanks.

If Microsoft would let me FIGHT the tiger from that “Kinectimals” game, I’d be more on board with it. I’m totally cool with motion controls, but what annoys me is that because Nintendo had such success with families and children, now everyone feels the need to appeal almost exclusively to that demographic. I understand why: [...]

Three words: “Mongolian Death Worm”.
SyFy is not to be trusted.

Thomas C. Walden wrote a new blog post: Gamer Limit Review: Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable 1 year, 7 months ago
I haven’t been a fan of Shin Megami Tensei games for a terribly long time (maybe about a year), but in that time I’ve played as many entries as I could get my hands on. With Persona 3 Portable , I’ve found a greatly enhanced version of an already enjoyable adventure. From battle mechanics to the option to [...] -

Honestly, at this point I would be more apt to lay the burden of change on parents rather than lawmakers. We have a rating system, and we have stores that already check identification as a matter of their company policy, so why should we extend this any further? Are these parents not responsible for what [...]

Thomas C. Walden wrote a new blog post: Gamer Limit Review: Singularity 1 year, 7 months ago
To say “it’s been done before” is quite the understatement these days. Flagrant rip-offs of popular franchises practically inundate the market, and with Singularity this fact becomes all the more apparent. However, Singularity also shows that in some respects, a rip-off can stand solid, though rising beyond that simple task is a difficult…[Read more] -
Thomas C. Walden wrote a new blog post: Gamer Limit Review: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
There has always been a struggle in the realm of portable gaming: how does one make a title that is both easy to pick up and play, and stand beside full-length console titles? Oftentimes, portable systems are inundated with quick, fairly easy titles that… -

Thomas C. Walden commented on the blog post E3’10: XCOM Impressions – Suburbia is anything but ordinary
I just don’t see why a good franchise needs to be “re-invented”. Just make a new strategy title – the original Xcom was called one of the best games in history for a reason!

Thomas C. Walden commented on the blog post We Need to Talk: What Are Games in 2010 Trying to Say?
Mass Effect 2 takes the “daddy issues” crown as far as I’m concerned. As much as I appreciated the focus on character’s lives and backstory, after about the third time I was expecting every new character to immediately launch into a crying session…

Thomas C. Walden commented on the blog post Gamer Limit Review: Alpha Protocol
I read about that on Joystiq. They don’t know who it was that said it, but if it’s true, the guy basically says the whole thing was pushed forward and subsequently micromanaged by Chris Parker, who ran away with entirely too many ideas most of which weren’t up to par…

The really disappointing thing about it is that doing such would have produced a GREAT game. The biggest letdown of this whole endeavor was the fact that such an intricately-designed plot was wasted on such a poor delivery system.

Thomas C. Walden commented on the blog post Editorial: What If All Games Were Free?
I’m apt to agree when it comes to having serious overhauls of the more stagnant genres, at least when it comes to how they’re received stateside.
As for Japan, I’m not so sure. While JRPG’s are about as derivative and grind-happy as it gets, there’s got to be a… -

This was one of the first RPG’s I ever played on a portable, and one of the first games I ever purchased for my silver Gameboy Pocket. Back in the day, it was fascinating to see Final Fantasy on a portable, even if it [...] -

Totally agreed – the imagery was fantastic (definitely in line with Chris here, lol), but the gameplay was just too similar from one area to the next.

I’m curious to see how they pull off Shepard. Shepard’s “canon” self is quite the dull individual, if the default choices in ME2 were any indication.
