I know you said the controls are better, but like…how much better? Do they feel really solid? I would have no problem with an obscenely hard platformer if I felt like it was my own fault when I lost. That was the big gripe I had that kept me from enjoying the flash game – [...]

Jamie Obeso commented on the blog post Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Sequel Planned 1 year, 4 months ago
I’ve been playing it when I can the last week, and Lords of Shadow is certainly a good game, but I think the gameplay of the last two 3D outings – Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness – were vastly superior in every way.

Is there some sort of special significance to broken controllers to communicate a message? I just wonder how this is any more compelling as a message, than, say, writing a letter.

Video games are going to be stupid, trivial kids toys as long as we – those who either play, criticize, or develop games – allow them to. That’s what I think of this.

PvZ was a bit too simple for me. I like Tower Defense games where the point is not just to obstruct someone’s path, but to reroute them. Or, at least, have some curvy paths and stuff, so you have to think harder about what units to place in which spots.

I just recently got a job, so I don’t feel like I have the time to really start a new game. Once I get used to having thirty less hours to dick around, I’ll probly get back into playing games. Otherwise, I just find the time to play Vampire Savior (aka Darkstalkers 3) now and [...]

I loved the first game other than the fact that if one guy thought the shotgun was hilarious and another guy thought the rocket launcher was hilarious…well, the shotgun guy was gonna get blown up. A lot.
Still, a sequel sounds pretty fun.

Now that I’m done with Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World (the game), I really have no idea what to play. I’ve been turning on WoW intermittently, but I just can’t think of anything I wanna play that badly at the moment.

Jamie Obeso wrote a new blog post: Gamer Limit Review: Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World 1 year, 5 months ago
The Scott Pilgrim series of graphic novels told a wonderful story about learning to accept you as yourself, for all the good and all the bad you’ve done. The Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World film doesn’t really capture that theme, but it at least makes up for it by showing us some action scenes of the [...] -

Cool to hear that you PS3 guys can finally play Castle Crashers. If you guys tried that Scott Pilgrim game and enjoyed it, play Castle Crashers; it’s a vastly superior experience in the gameplay department.

Jamie Obeso commented on the blog post Microsoft unveils a new 360 controler featuring a “transforming” d-pad 1 year, 5 months ago
This could be good. I don’t hate the XBox 360 pad for fighters NEARLY as much as other people do (they’re only a big problem for extremely technical fighters imo), but they could use an overhaul. It could honestly be worse, though; it could have been the Dreamcast pad. I swear, that is the worst [...]

I’m playing the Scott Pilgrim game. It isn’t all that hot; it’s a retro game that tries way too hard to be retro. But, on the upside, it did inspire me to check out the movie and the graphic novels, both of which are very awesome.

I think this is awesome, and it would be really interesting to see more competitive games discussed on a more analytical level. Even if someone’s not interested in becoming a serious competitor, competitive games – or really, competitive anything – teaches a lot of valuable life lessons. Also, that Berkeley class sounds dope. Surprisingly, I’m playing World of Warcraft. My biggest beef with the game has always been the fact that WoW fans tell me there’s tons of cool stuff to do…when you get to max level. Actually GETTING to max level has proven to be some of the most boring gaming experiences I’ve ever had. But, Blizzard [...]

I wasn’t implying that you were making something up, so I apologize if I came off that way. What I *am* saying is, no matter what the biggest editors or the biggest magazines say, they can’t MAKE readers read reviews for certain things, nor can they force writers (except writers on their own sites I [...]

Jamie Obeso commented on the blog post Reviews Are Not School Grades 1 year, 5 months ago
The trouble I have here is the comment ‘reviews aren’t about critical statements at all. They are buying guides.’ I’m not saying you’re wrong…mostly cos I can’t. I would argue that this is a completely subjective statement. Readers will have different opinions on what they value in a review, as will a writer. If someone [...]

Jamie Obeso commented on the blog post Sega: Two types of Sonic players, Sonic Colors is not for core gamers 1 year, 6 months ago
I don’t get what the problem is here. I mean, weren’t most of the people who fell in love with the Sonic series from the Genesis era between the ages of 6-12 at the time? Just who the hell are we to act so condescending about Sega making a Sonic game aimed at that age [...]

DLC characters may not split the fighting game community, but it’s a huge insult to someone who buys the game to play it competitively; those players don’t care about if the character comes with a theme song, colors, and an unlimited version. What they care about is that when they pay the price of admission [...]
